SRP Powering Our Future In-Class Program

The SRP Powering Our Future In-Class Program is a three-part energy education program for grades 4-8.  The program begins with a teacher-led, engaging, and interactive pre-visit PowerPoint presentation and activity that introduces basic concepts of electricity and energy conservation to students.  Following the pre-visit activity, two presenters deliver an exciting and hands-on multimedia presentation.  In the presentation, students look closely at energy transformations and electricity generation, ride the Energy Bike to power incandescent, fluorescent, and LED light bulbs, experiment with and discuss solar power, and finish with an in-depth look at energy conservation and efficiency.  The classroom teacher also leads a post-visit activity that pushes students to think critically about their home energy use and how to better conserve.  All components of the SRP Powering Our Future program align with ADE standards and Common Core/Arizona College and Career Readiness (AZCCR) standards.  Each piece is designed to fit into a typical 50-60 minute class period.  The program is sponsored by Salt River Project and is offered free of charge to Phoenix-area schools.  To schedule presentations, contact Claudine Truxal, Phoenix Energy Programs Manager, at ctruxal@eeexchange.org or 602.909.5341.
